Koenraad Pringiers is from Belgium and has been living in Sri Lanka for the last 40 years. He is the CEO of Michelin in Sri Lanka the largest tire manufacturer in the island and the Honorary Consul for Belgium in Sri Lanka.
Through a keen interest in art and architecture, commissioned the world renowned Pritzker prize winning Japanese architect to design his weekend retreat Villa Vista in Mirissa.
His other interest in sailing and the sea has him involved in the family venture: the Sail Lanka Yachting group which manufactures sailing yachts from 18ft to 80ft with a focus on catamarans for residential charter. The group also operates a fleet of 10 yachts around Sri Lanka from Colombo, Mirissa, Passikudah, Trincomalee and Jaffna opening up Sri Lanka’s 1400km coastline to leisure travelers.
Built of concrete, local teak and coconut leaves, the villa is a multi-level, open-air structure composed of a series of platforms accessed by stairs. Villa Vista is a stunning contemporary villa built on a hillock overlooking the Weligama Bay in the South.
Designed by world renowned Pritzker Architecture Prize winning, Japanese architect, Shigeru Ban, the villa is a highlight in modern architecture emphasizing space, natural light and breeze.
